Lake District Rock Climbing Rescue Course

Course: £60.00

Rock Climbing Rescue Course in the Lake District

Would you know what to do if something went wrong during a multi-pitch climb? Could you rescue your second if they were stuck or injured? This course is a unique opportunity to practice escaping the system, prusiking, hoisting and retreating from climbs for intermediate climbers who can lead. Make sure you and your climbing partners would know what to do.

This one day workshop will give climbers the chance to learn about and practice essential rescue skills so that they can enjoy multi-pitch climbing competently and safely. We will cover how to lock off a belay plate, assisted and unassisted hoisting, escaping the system, personal abseiling and prusiking (ascending a fixed rope). These skills will be first taught at ground level and then in the afternoon there will be the opportunity to put them into practice on a route.

This day is suitable for intermediate to experienced climbers who have had some experience of leading multi-pitch rock climbs. We will be outside all day.

Our improvised self-rescue courses for climbers are very popular with climbing clubs so that all their members know what to do in case of an emergency.

All courses are run by fully qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors who are full members of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI).

August has been a busy month. Lots of scrambling, August has been a busy month. Lots of scrambling, climbing and navigation in the fells.
Striding Edge or Sharp Edge – which makes the bett Striding Edge or Sharp Edge – which makes the better first scramble? 🤔⛰️

It's one of the questions we're asked most often...

"Should I start with Striding Edge or Sharp Edge?"

The honest answer? Neither is automatically the best choice for everyone.

Both are fantastic Grade 1 scrambles in the Lake District, but they offer very different experiences.

🏔️ Striding Edge is broader, busier and has plenty of opportunities to choose easier or harder lines. It's a brilliant introduction for many people, but the exposure can feel intimidating if you're nervous about heights.

🪨 Sharp Edge is shorter but more technical. It demands good footwork and confidence on steeper rock. In dry conditions it's an exciting challenge, but when it's wet it can become surprisingly serious.

The best first scramble isn't necessarily the most famous one—it's the one that matches your experience, confidence and the conditions on the day.

That's why, on our scrambling days, we don't just guide you across a ridge. We help you develop the skills and confidence to move efficiently on rocky ground, make good decisions and enjoy the experience rather than simply getting through it.

Because the goal isn't to tick off one scramble...

It's to build the confidence to enjoy many more adventures in the mountains. 💚

Have you done Striding Edge, Sharp Edge, both, or neither? Which would you recommend as a first scramble? Let us know in the comments! 👇

📍 Why We Keep Our Group Sizes Small One of the qu 📍 Why We Keep Our Group Sizes Small

One of the questions we’re often asked is why we run our Beginners Navigation Courses with low instructor-to-participant ratios.

The answer is simple: learning navigation takes practice.

Reading a map, taking bearings, interpreting terrain and making good route choices are all skills that develop through doing—not just watching. By keeping groups small, every participant gets plenty of opportunities to make decisions, ask questions, make mistakes, and then try again in a supportive environment.

Rather than rushing from point to point, we can slow things down, explore different techniques, and give individual feedback tailored to each learner’s needs. This helps build confidence and ensures that everyone leaves with skills they can use independently on future adventures.

Navigation isn't about following an instructor around the hills—it's about learning how to find your own way.

Small groups. More practice. Better learning. 🧭
