Course Content
If you have already learnt the basic winter skills and maybe ascended a few mountains in winter conditions then this course will take you onto the next stage in your mountaineering adventure. The content of our winter mountaineering courses is kept flexible to allow for changes in the weather and the personal aspirations of our clients, however a typical winter mountaineering course would be likely to include; a revision of the basic winter skills, coaching of personal movement skills on scrambling terrain, basic rope work including using a sling and karabiner, construction of snow anchors such as a bucket seat or buried axe belay, abseiling from a snow bollard, avalanche awareness and navigation.
Our winter mountaineering courses will take place on steep ground up to Scottish grade I/II or snow slopes up to 50 degrees. Some summer hill walking or scrambling experience would be useful together with a good level of fitness to cope with full days out in winter conditions.
