SUMMER
IS HERE
The weather is still a little varied
but it has definitely got warmer and two nights ago we went out
and picked a one litre tub full of wild raspberries. We
even managed to find a few wild strawberries (see picture).
We are looking forward to bilberries next as they should be
ready for picking any day soon. Everywhere is looking lush
and green and the flowers make everything colourful. Now
is a great time of year to come on one of our
guided
walks and see everything the Lake District
countryside has to offer.
NEW
MULTI-ACTIVITY COURSE
If you would like to try a
bit of everything then come on one of our new
Multi-Activity courses. We will meet you in
Borrowdale and start with an introduction to rock
climbing on Woden's Face and then finish off the
morning with a fantastic 100 foot abseil down the
side of an old quarry. After lunch we will
all then move on to Stoney Croft ghyll where we
will take you on an exciting decent complete with
slides, jumps, the possibility of abseiling down
a waterfall and plenty of getting
wet. Great fun and no experience necessary.
NEW
BRONZE NNAS COURSE DATE FOR JULY
These two day courses are proving very
popular as an introduction to basic navigation. Can you identify map symbols and
scales, take and locate 6 figure grid references, orientate the map with and
without a compass, estimate distance on the map and on the ground and use
linear features as handrails? If not then join us on one of these
courses and we can show you how to make your days out on the hill safer and
lots more fun. For more details look at our
Navigation page. New Dates: 5th/6th July
KESWICK
MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL 2008
The festival was a great success this year
and we had a fantastic week. Nick spent two days climbing at Shepherd's Crag in
the glorious sunshine; the mist on Blencathra on Saturday helped to calm a
few nerves because we could not see the drop and then we were topping up our
suntans again on Cam Crag Ridge on Sunday. Look out for an even
better programme of events next year.
GREEN
BUSINESS CARDS
More than Mountains have just had some new business
cards printed and in keeping with our green ethos we have tried to make the
process as environmentally friendly as possible. We used a printing
company that is certified with ISO14001 and uses 100% recycled paper and
vegetable oil based inks. The cards are great and we are glad we could
support a company that takes green issues seriously.
PHOTOS
OF YOUR COURSE
Next time you are on a
More than Mountains course make sure you keep smiling; we will
be taking a digital camera with us on all of our courses and
taking as many photos as we can of the day. At the end of
your course we can send you all of the photos on a CD for you to remember
your day by. These CDs will cost £10 each (including post and
packaging.) Just pay on the day.
ADVERT
IN TRAIL
We have had a fantastic,
new advert designed for us by Grant at Mansfields Design and
we have just sent it off to Trail magazine. The next edition of Trail is coming out on 31st
March so look out for us in the classified section; our new advert is bright
yellow so you won't be able to miss it! If you'd like to get a
sneaky preview then click here.
NNAS
PROVIDERS
More than Mountains have become official National Navigation Award Scheme providers. The NNAS is designed
to develop sound navigation practice for individuals of all ages to enhance
their enjoyment of the countryside and to give them the confidence to go
walking in the hills by themselves. More than Mountains will be
offering Bronze and Silver level awards. We
will be posting some dates of courses on the website
soon but if you have a specific date in mind please
drop us a line.
SCOTLAND
The More Than Mountains
team are heading up to Scotland for all of February to try
and make the most of the snow.
We are going to be based just outside Aviemore and getting into the
Cairngorms most days. Nick is going to be working towards
his MIC assessment which he is hoping to do in 2009 and Jill
will be working towards her Winter ML.
NEW
WEBSITE
Welcome to our new website. We have
spent a couple of months working with Grant Harris at Mansfields Design
getting our new logo and website designed and we are really pleased with the
result. Thank you to all of our friends and family who gave freely of
their opinions and apologies to those of you we have ignored. We are
going to be adding lots of new pages over the next few months so keep an eye
out for new courses and special offers.
