Courses designed just for you.

We are a small, friendly company that specialises in tailoring courses to perfectly fit your needs and goals. At More than Mountains we want you to get more from your trip to Cumbria and the Lake District which is why every course is specially designed to make sure you really make the most of your time in the mountains.

We offer a whole range of outdoor activities including rock climbing, scrambling, guided tours and walks with a  Blue Badge tourist guide, navigation courses, multi-activity days and winter mountaineering courses. All of our courses are run by highly qualified and knowledgeable instructors whose passion for what they do is always evident.

We can teach you a new skill, show you some of our favourite parts of the Lake District or perhaps guide you up a walking or climbing route you have always wanted to do.   We love helping our customers get out and about in the Lake District and we do our best to make sure you go away having had lots of fun and inspired to do more.  Our contact details are at the bottom of every page – please get in touch if you have any questions, requests or if you would like to make a booking.

What our customers say about us:

More than Mountains
(I would give the course) 10 out of 10, it did everything we wanted and more. I do not think that the course could have been improved in any way. (The venues were) away from the crowds, and off the beaten track. Jill, you were very patient with us and let us make our own mistakes. The learning experience was very enjoyable and your teaching techniques were great. We all feel we are now at a level that will allow us to confidently get around using a map. We have even discussed maybe doing a further course simply because we enjoyed ourselves so much, I am sure that is down to you.

More than Mountains Gift Vouchers

If you are looking for a birthday or Christmas present for friends or family why not get them a More than Mountains gift voucher?  You can buy a gift voucher for any amount, you can book them on to a specific course or you can leave the choice up to them.

A navigation course is a wonderful present for someone who likes being outdoors in the countryside or up in the hills but is not yet confident enough with a map and compass to find their own way.  Learning how to read a map opens up a whole new world to be explored, safe in the knowledge you will be able to find your own way home.

Someone who has done quite a lot of walking in the British hills and mountains might like to try the next stage and go on a scrambling course.    Scrambling is part way between walking and climbing and is a great way to have adventures in the Lake District without all of the experience and kit necessary for climbing.

Our rock climbing courses are always popular.   There is no better place to learn to rock climb than in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District.  We run a wide variety of courses so there is something for everyone.  Whether you are nervously contemplating your first climb or you would like to be guided up one of the Lake District’s classic rock climbing routes we can design a course for you.

For families we always recommend our multi-activity days.  With three exciting activities packed into one action-filled day these days are perfect for energetic families of all ages.   The whole family can get involved rock climbing, abseiling and gorge walking and for many families it is the best day of their holiday to the Lake District.

To book a voucher for any of these courses you just need to email us and let us know the value of the voucher you would like to buy.  We will email the voucher to you so it is perfect for those last minute presents too.
