  • Our multi-activity days are a fantastic day out for groups of friends and family. This group hired two instructors so we could make sure everyone was kept busy.

  • Tern was built in Wivenhoe, Essex in 1891. She was then transported in sections by rail to Windermere where she has been carrying passengers up and down the lake ever since.

  • The Eltermere Inn's website says it is a haven of peace and tranquillity - we could not agree more. We came away from our tea and scone stop feeling thoroughly refreshed.

  • Great view of Windermere, looking north from Adelaide Hill. The hill was named after the wife of William IV who climbed it in 1840. Adelaide, Australia is also named after her.

  • Our walk recommendation for this month is a circumnavigation of Loughrigg Fell - otherwise known as the "Good Conversation" walk. Read our blog to find out more: http://www.morethanmountains.co.uk/good-conversation-walk/

Not every walk in the Lake District has to be steep and rocky; there are hundreds of wonderful fells to walk up but sometimes the sun is too warm and the conversation too good to risk getting sweaty and out of breath…Read more ›

  • It's a very tough part of our job but we like to keep up to date with all of the local cafes and restaurants so we know which ones to recommend. We finished a lovely circumnavigation of Loughrigg today with cake at Cote How, Rydal. The setting was wonderful and we can thoroughly recommend the chocolate brownies and the almond and orange cake. We might have to go back to make sure all of the other cakes are up to scratch.

What our customers say about us:

More than Mountains
(I would give the course) 10 out of 10, it did everything we wanted and more. I do not think that the course could have been improved in any way. (The venues were) away from the crowds, and off the beaten track. Jill, you were very patient with us and let us make our own mistakes. The learning experience was very enjoyable and your teaching techniques were great. We all feel we are now at a level that will allow us to confidently get around using a map. We have even discussed maybe doing a further course simply because we enjoyed ourselves so much, I am sure that is down to you.

More than Mountains Gift Vouchers

If you are looking for a birthday or Christmas present for friends or family why not get them a More than Mountains gift voucher?  You can buy a gift voucher for any amount, you can book them on to a specific course or you can leave the choice up to them.

A navigation course is a wonderful present for someone who likes being outdoors in the countryside or up in the hills but is not yet confident enough with a map and compass to find their own way.  Learning how to read a map opens up a whole new world to be explored, safe in the knowledge you will be able to find your own way home.

Someone who has done quite a lot of walking in the British hills and mountains might like to try the next stage and go on a scrambling course.    Scrambling is part way between walking and climbing and is a great way to have adventures in the Lake District without all of the experience and kit necessary for climbing.

Our rock climbing courses are always popular.   There is no better place to learn to rock climb than in the beautiful scenery of the Lake District.  We run a wide variety of courses so there is something for everyone.  Whether you are nervously contemplating your first climb or you would like to be guided up one of the Lake District’s classic rock climbing routes we can design a course for you.

For families we always recommend our multi-activity days.  With three exciting activities packed into one action-filled day these days are perfect for energetic families of all ages.   The whole family can get involved rock climbing, abseiling and gorge walking and for many families it is the best day of their holiday to the Lake District.

To book a voucher for any of these courses you just need to email us and let us know the value of the voucher you would like to buy.  We will email the voucher to you so it is perfect for those last minute presents too.
